JAF – Joint Approach for managing Flooding

Recent floods of European rivers have made it clear that we will have to change our approach to water. This requires international cooperation. This is the objective of the ‘Joint Approach for managing Flooding’ (or JAF). This is a European partnership of five organisations active in water management.

Within JAF, intense cooperation between these partners since 2002 focused on new solutions and projects, ensuring better control of water levels in order to guarantee safety. The results can be found on this website.

The results of four years of JAF
“JAF has resulted in a number of marvellous examples of modern water management. But perhaps the greatest gain of JAF is that water management parties from various European countries increasingly get in touch with each other.”

Piet van Erp, JAF project manager

European Community Subsidy

The European Community recognizes the importance of a collective approach to flood prevention.
For this reason, JAF receives a subsidy for its projects from the European Regional Development Fund.
